Troy kicker/punter Will Scott was named Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Trojans 41-31 win over Navy on Saturday.
Scott nailed a pair of field goals (23, 25) and also pinned Navy at its own 2-yard line with a fantastic 38-yard punt.
Scott has been solid for Troy this season. He has hit 13 of 17 field goal attempts. Scott was also named Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 24.
Oddly, Troy, averaging 499.5 yards of offense per game, has had just one player named Offensive Player of the Week (Shawn Southward, Week 1), where as two have each been named Defensive and Special Teams POW.
CBSsports.com is projecting Troy to the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham on Jan. 5 to face Toledo.
The Troy women’s basketball team lost its season opener on the road to Winthrop, 87-82. The Eagles were 18-13 last season including an 80-66 win over Troy.
One encouraging thing about the loss is the points scored. Troy averaged just under 50 points (49.9) per game last season didn’t score 80+ in 28 games.
